Is Mrs. Jones Okay?

When staff members look in on a resident, how do they determine whether the resident is truly okay?

This proactive “back-to-basics” DVD identifies what to do and look for when performing routine resident checks. It encourages taking time to look, listen, ask questions, take vital signs, and document any mental or physical changes that may signal a change in health status. The “checklist” of areas to consider include: skin color, facial expressions, body positioning, body temperature, respiratory rate, and blood pressure. The DVD also discusses the importance of knowing each resident and looking for communication cues from residents who are non-verbal or have dementia, so the caregiver is equipped to recognize the onset of any potential health problems.
