What happens when real caregivers become “real” residents? How will their experiences change how they think about being a resident? How will the care they provide to residents change in the future?

This reality DVD looks on as several real caregivers experience how it is to be a resident over an eight-day period. The DVD follows them day and night as they learn how it feels to be dependent on others for intimate care and daily needs. They experience incontinence, being bathed and fed by someone else, waiting to receive care after a fall, not sleeping well due to noise or interruptions, lack of privacy, irritability due to feelings of helplessness, and boredom.

From learning the importance of communicating more with residents to encouraging meaningful activities, the resulting insights of these caregivers are sure to sensitize other staff members–new and veteran–to practical and effective ways they can immediately improve daily care to residents.
