The Value of Nature for Older Adults
“We need to experience nature in all things that we do, we need to experience light, water, sound, animals — that’s all a part of the quality of life and when you cut someone off from that and isolate them from that, they almost die.” -From the video.
This program explores the many benefits to mental, emotional, physical, and social well-being when older adults have continued connection to nature through design and accessibility. Taking into account available research and input from design and senior care experts, it covers practical ways to promote outdoor usage through People (policies, staff encouragement, activity programs) and Places (planning, design, environmental construction). Senior Care providers will find viable and practical ideas to design new issues that affect persons with dementia, and gives alternative ways to bring nature indoors for frail or limited activity seniors. Ideal for all senior care setting from assisted living and long term to retirement communities.
