Katz Index of Independence in Activities of Daily Living
The Katz Index is a direct-observation assessment tool that measure a patient’s ability to independently perform six basic activities of daily living in the following areas:
- bathing
- dressing
- toileting
- transferring
- continence
- feeding
This DVDÂ encourages maximizing the person(s) functional status, while evaluating their actual capabilities to safely perform these daily tasks. It also identifies multiple factors that can affect older adult functioning, and discusses limitations in performing ADL’s in community and instituational settings.
