Chronic Pain In Geriatrics: Management

This program guides you in developing a pain management program for the elderly who have chronic pain. An approach to specific drug therapy–including opiates–is discussed, with emphasis on fears of staff, patients and family caregivers regarding addiction, tolerance, and respiratory depressions with opiate use.

The video also reviews the use of specific non-drug therapies to minimize medication use. It focuses on improving quality of life by providing an individualized care plan that addresses the physical and psychosocial symptoms, areas of decline in ADL’s, family distress, and other factors that contribute to suffering.
