Legacy

In this video, elders from several American Indian tribes, including Navajo, Sioux and Tohono O’odham, speak about the federal government’s long trail of broken promises to tribes. They explain how reservation elders have been affected, and how they are triumphing despite the odds. Legacy shows several existing programs for elders and the difficulties faced in providing services for Indian elders.

Several appearances by prominent tribal leaders include Wilma Mankiller, Peterson Zah and Bill Anoatubby, as well as Dr. Philip Lee, director of the U.S. Public Health Service and the Administration on Aging’s former Assistant Secretary, Fernando Torres-Gil.
